ACCREDITATION OF GLOBAL TRADE TRAINING (GTT)

This serves to advise that GTT has now received TETA accreditation for all unit standards making up the following qualifications under accreditation number TETA08-176:

SAQA ID

Qualification Title

NQF Level

22439

National Certificate: International Trade

2

22442

National Certificate: Freight Forwarding

3

A copy of the relevant letter received from TETA is attached.

What does this mean?

Where tranche payments have not yet been applied for in respect of learners who commenced their programmes, these payments may now be applied for.

For those learners who have completed programmes with us, GTT is in the process of completing the external moderation required to finalise their results and for us to apply for Statements of Results in this regard.

This will enable the companies concerned to finalise their tranche claims in respect of this training.

Moving ahead

The NQF3 qualification (SAQA ID 22442) is still current and thus enrolments for this learnership and skills programmes can place until September 2009.

Although the NQF 2 qualification (SAQA ID 22439) has expired, many of the industry specific unit standards and some of the communications, maths and computer unit standards are still current: enrolments against the current unit standards can be accepted

A schedule showing the unit standards composition of the this qualification, which of unit standards are still current and which have expired is shown in the Annexure below.

In order to keep continuity of training it is recommended that enrolments against the unit standards which are still valid should continue. Any unit standards which are acquired will gain credits towards the new freight forwarding qualifications which have been registered (see “New qualifications and learnerships” below).

New qualifications and learnerships

GTT was intimately involved in the process of building a completely revised qualifications structure for the freight forwarding industry during 2007. Four qualifications were built, one at each of the NQF  Levels from 2 to 5. Those of most interest to freight forwarders are the following:

SAQA ID

Qualification Title

NQF Level

59326

National Certificate: International Trade

2

59365

National Certificate: Freight Forwarding and Customs Compliance

3

59298

Further Education and Training Certificate: Freight Forwarding and Customs Compliance

4

TETA is busy registering learnerships against these three qualifications. Unlike the previous qualifications, where there was only one learnership registered against each qualification, there will be a number of different learnerships registered against each of these qualifications, giving employers choices of specialisation depending on the particular learnership which they select.

An advanced learnership to be registered at each of NQF Levels 3 and 4 will meet the academic criteria required for the award of the FIATA Diploma in South Africa.

GTT is cooperating with other providers in a SAAFF driven project to create reference material which is aligned to the unit standards making up the new NQF3 and 4 qualifications. We are creating our own material for the NQF 2 qualification.

Please do not hesitate to make contact if there is any further information you require or is we can assist you in any way with your training planning.

All the best,

Charles Dey
