In common with many other industries, there is a huge skills shortage in the freight forwarding industry. An increasing number of freight forwarding companies are addressing this through the implementation of freight forwarding learnerships. These companies are already reaping the benefits, with a number of graduates from the learnerships having risen to supervisory positions.

This is a particularly opportune time to do so in light of the fact that the qualifications registered for the South African freight forwarding industry are in the process of being aligned to the internationally recognised FIATA Diploma in Freight Forwarding.

Our company, Global Trade Training (GTT) was founded in 2001 for the purpose of filling a need for training in international logistics in general and freight forwarding in particular.

Since then we have graduated over 200 learners with our unique approach.

As an accredited provider specialising in the field of international logistics and freight forwarding we can offer the following:

  • We have a complete “Training Managers Toolbox” (manual and CD) which provides Line Management with a comprehensive guideline for learnership implementation from learner selection, through planning, scheduling and workbased mentoring and assessment to final learner and programme evaluation. It has proved very successful in removing many of the concerns surrounding learnership implementation at operational level.
  • Learnerships can be implemented anywhere at any time and there are no logistics hassles in ensuring that learners attend classes- management of the learners is carried out from your desk via the Learner Management facility (see below)
  • Once learners have been selected, we personally orientate them to the provisions of the learnership and the GTT learning platform
  • Our unique, Internet based, challenge methodology provides an intensive learning experience which teaches concept, interpretation and application for each of the unit standards comprising the qualification. Thus theoretical learning and practical application are seamlessly interweaved.
  • The GTT learning platform incorporates a user friendly Learner Management facility which enables the person responsible for the learners to monitor their progress against preset deadlines in real time, to assess the relative strengths and weaknesses of each learner in each of the areas covered by the qualification and, when problems are detected, to take pro active remedial action
  • Distribution of weekly learner progress reports
  • Monthly sessions with yourselves and the learners to discuss progress and deal with any problems
  • Submission of the relevant reports and documentation in the required format for the purpose of SETA tranche payment claims

The GTT system is a “one stop service” on which learners can complete their whole learnership qualification- no need to use a plethora of providers
